I really tried hard to fix this before probably having to ask the same networking question as a thousand others, but...
Upgraded P133 to Win98 and now no network. I use Linksys router. Was working before upgrade. Network includes laptop and P633, they still work.
Connection light comes on but no through put. I have rechecked a hundred times, Workgroup name (all caps), PC name, tcp/ip setup, all to no avail. I'm just flat lost.
Thanks for any help.

OK... if your running IP, how is the workstation in question getting an address? Is the Linksys Router configured for DHCP or are you just assigning a static address to the workstation? If you are using DHCP, is the client actually getting an IP??? Run WINIPCFG and view the proper network adapter from the drop down to verify that you are getting a good IP Address in the same Subnet as the router (and presumably, the otehr stations).

If you have a good valid IP address, can you ping the Router? Can you ping the Workstations?

Are you running any other protocols in the network setup on the workstaiton in question besides IP? Are you running any other protocols on the other stations??

This can be caused by changing the signon password, or using one when the network doesnt have one. If you do not like my post feel free to point out your opinion or my errors.

Does the traffic light on your card flash when you send out a ping?
If not, you may need to get new drivers for the card.

Does the light on the router flash too?
If not, you may need to check the cable & connections, and possibly try using one of the cabes from the other working workstations.

What is the ping result from attempting to communicate to the other machines?
If it is "Destination host unreachable." then Windows has probles either with the adapter settings or the TCP/IP settings.
If it is "Request timed out." then it could be cabling, the router, or the remote computer that is having difficulty. You may try power cycling the router and see if it starts working again.

You could also try directly connecting to another workstation with a crossover patch cable, set up static IP addresses, and test the basic functionality of the network drivers in a simplified scenario.

I hope this helps.

How much memory are you running in the upgraded machine?

Have you checked the IP addresses on each System? What Classification are you running, A,B, or C. Is your default subnet Masks the same? Ping the NIC card and the router.
I hope some of these questions will help you.
