Upgraded to IE7 and not as good?

Last week I just upgraded from IE6 to IE7. First thing I noticed is that the resolution is bleached out. At first I thought it was the video driver for my LCD, but the desktop (Win XP) and all other application(s) look fine.

The other thing is this crappy "Explorer Bar". I would rather use the "Menu Bar" and take the "Explorer Bar" off. I can add the "Menu Bar" but don't want them both.

Any idea:

- on what the resolution issue is with IE7 or how to correct it?
- on how to remove the "Explorer Bar"?

I ran IE 7 when it first came out and ended up uninstalling it. In a nutshell, I think it sucks. The "look" for lack of a better term is not real sharp. And it would hang up my explorer process a lot. Went back to IE 6 and everything is ok again....

Thanks,

Matt,

I agree. Not sure I would say it sucks but definitely not what I am looking for. I understand that it is really designed to be used with Vista, not XP. Not sure how that would keep it from being able to be modified (i.e. remove or at least combine the "Explorer Bar" with the "Menu Bar") and what the issue is with the display resolution.

I had IE7 "Release Candidate" and just did the same thing, uninstalled it and went back to IE6 for now.

I found the first beta to be a bit shakey but have been using IE7 ever since and the current RC seems to be very stable it never seems to cause me any issues.
I had far more issues with Live Messenger which seems to lock the IE home page when it installs and i have to run in safe mode to change it. Very Odd.

started using beta3 then upped to rc1. some minor bugs but the power of ie7 is much greater.

if you hav access to machines running ie6 & ie7 check out the below webpage on both machines & see the difference.

there are other improvements that i like & some don't; such as tabs. have not noticed degradation in resolution.

Absolutely no problem wit my 7. Sites load quicker and text looks better for some reason. Just my experience.

has anyone succesfully loaded this on a windows 2k server? or is it just simply unsupported/unavailable.

I haven't tried .. just looking for experiences

I haven't tried but it isn't supported and i suspect it would make a mess if you managed to get it on. Your options are third party browser, IE6 or just not browsing the net from the server.

The only thing I can think of for your "resolution being bleached out" problem is that IE7 comes with ClearType enabled by default.

You can turn this monstrosity off by going to Tools -> Internet Options -> Advanced Tab -> "Multimedia" Section -> Untick "Always use ClearType for HTML".

Then Restart IE7. Does it look OK now? If not, then I have no idea what you mean by "resolution is bleached out". Could you post a screenshot?
