Here is the deal. I upgraded the motherboard, memory, and processor for a friend's PC.

Motherboard: Asrock P4VHT8
Processor : Pentium 4 2.8 GHz

This is what happened. After installing the hardware, when I start the computer, I can't reach the OS. I see the following message:

"Looking For Boot Record From IDE-0: OK"

Thats where it gets stuck.

HeeeeeeeEEEEELLLLLLLPPPP ...

NOTE: Dramatic effect for added emphasis.

Well, there is the little step of going into the BIOS to set the CMOS so it can find a hard drive. And the requirement that the hard drive be plugged into IDE0.
With the description of what you have upgraded and the steps you have taken thus far your help will probably have to start at ground zero.
And depending on what OS is on the machine you may have opened a larger can of worms than you expect.

Give the wrong symptoms, get the wrong solutions.

If old system had xp,you should reload windows. Don't format, just reload. most of the data will be there. xp doesn't like it when system boards are changed to different type, different chipset. Big headache.

You can also try pulling out all adapters except video. might be hanging on the plug and play os. resource conflicts.

Thank you every one. It turns out there was another hard drive in the system. It had Win 98 on it. I upgraded it to XP. Removed the original hard drive for data retrieval and will reformat it later.

Thanks once again for your timely responses.
