Upgrade within Release 8 question 1

I have one IPO500 v2 system on 8.0.16. The system has the current licenses installed:
Software upgrade 5 (8.0) (I am assuming this was a 7.0 machine before- the previous tech is no longer here)
Essential Edition additional VM ports
Virtual Avaya IP endpopints 12 instances
2 each Avaya IP endpoints 5 instances
2 each Avaya Ip endpoints 1 instance

What is the procedure to update this system to 8.0.66? Am I correct that I can do this without an upgrade charge? I currently run manager 9.0.2.0 (860) over our WAN, and have another system on 8.0.66, and 2 on version 9.

no cost other than your time, make sure you have the bin files and manager is pointed to these for the upgrade to 8.0 (66)

Thanks, Joe. I have the files downloaded from the Avaya site. Would it be better to do this at the location, as compared to over the WAN? As long as I leave the backup files check box selected, if it doesn't come back up, I can restore the old files from the backup folder on the SD card and reboot, correct? Sorry for all the questions, but the first admin class didn't get into SD management and upgrades. I appreciate your time!
 
yes you can do remote, do a change working directory on manager for the binary directory and point to the location of the 8.0.66 bin files, then go to manager file/advanced upgrade it set correct it should show upgrade going to 8.0.66 hit upgrade, password is password, this is all you need to do

un-tick the options to send speech prompts, web admin pages etc or it will take hours transferring unnecessary data.

A Maintenance contract is essential, not a Luxury.
Do things on the cheap & it will cost you dear
 
OK, I came in early today to do this update before the clinic opened, and BAM, I get a warning splash. Upgrading to Release 5.0 and beyond requires a software run time license. Please ensure you have purchased and configured the correct software license for each IP Office before proceeding. If you don't, puppies will die and mosquitoes will carry you away, etc, etc. :) Needless to say, I cancelled. Rookie jitters. Is that a normal warning, and should I proceed (tomorrow morning- too late now)?
 
this is a normal message, you will be all set as instructed.

Should this also work within release 9? I have a new system here I am programming, getting ready to install in the next week or so. It came with 9.0.0.0 build 829. I tried to install the service pack 2 updated BINs 9.0.2.0 860 but it says failed every time. Read in the manual that even minor releases require an update license. The more I learn the more confusing it becomes! Slow and steady, though...
 
Yes it works with R9, only stepping up major versions requires a licence, you must have done something wrong :)

 
Good possibility, amriddle01. I admit I am learning! I upgraded Manager first, it is now 9.0.3.0 (941). With no config open, I chose File>advanced>upgrade and selected the system. The current bin files showed 9.0.0.0 (829) and available bin files showed 9.0.2.0(86). I left all check boxes checked as default. When I click upgrade, it asked for the password and I put it in and clicked OK. It tries to upload the files and says failed on each file. I'm stumped.
 
on the manager working directory; make sure the binary is pointed to C:\Program Files\Avaya\IP Office\Manager

It isn't, but that's because that directory has 9.0.3.0(941) bins. I tried those and got the same result. So, I downloaded the 9.0.2.0 (860) bins, put them in another directory, and tried them. When I point to any other directory, manager finds no files available, so I know it is seeing the files. The password should be the system administrator password, correct?
 
Failed usually means wrong password, it's "password" by default and not the same as the password used by Manager etc :)
