I've got a Dell Inspiron 2650 I working on right now. It seems that it locks up quite often and has problems booting up. It was purchased with Win XP Home edition and XP Pro was installed later as an Upgrade (not the full version). Has this been known to cause problems concurrent with what I'm experiencing? On my home computer, I orginally installed Home Edition and when I decieded to go Pro, I formatted and put a full edition of XP Pro.

Thanks...and my boss thanks you as well!

I would suggest that it is always a better idea to reformat and install the full version of any operating system.

Just as a side note, the upgrade CD is the same as the full version, except it is cheaper of course, and requires a product key from a previous version of Windows as proof.

You can install XP from the upgrade CD to a hard drive that has been formatted.

Just in case you didn't realize...

Hi,

I was contemplating the XP Home-to-Pro upgrade myself and am curious to know the way to properly format my hard drive prior to installing from the upgrade CD. Can anyone help with this (most likely) lengthy request?

Thanks!
