Upgrade to solaris10 with cd's

Hi guys,

I am trying to upgrade from solaris9 to solaris 10
on my sparc Sunfire V240 server for that i have downloaded solaris10 software from sun's website which is free on 4 cd's & 1 optional cd. when loaded cd1 in cdrom drive from console on Single user mode when i enter # reboot cdrom
it get back to prompt # 1 ok than i entered
# ok boot cdrom
i am getting can't open cdrom .. if any of you guys can help what's wrong in my path..i am missing something very basic here.
your help on this is greatly appreciated.

The "reboot cdrom" command won't boot the system to a CDROM drive. It's "reboot -- cdrom". Intuitive, eh?

Your "boot cdrom" from the ok prompt should have worked fine though.

How did you burn the ISOs? That's what has gotten me in the past. Now I just download the ISOs, rename them with ".iso" as an extension, and use burnatonce to create the cdrom. Works like a charm for me.

like downloaded in -iso.zip format & burned in cd.
sol-10-u1-ga-sparc-v1-iso.zip & same burned in cd
that's reason it's not reading in server from cdrom .please let me know how to burn -iso.zip your help in this regards is highly appreciated.

These are zipped files. You will have to first unzip them to get the xxxxx.iso files.

You will then have to use CD burning s/w and select option to burn from an image file and point it to the .iso file.

I use ezdvd creator and it works fine.

I used Recordnow to burn .iso images it works fine,Now i can able to boot from this cd's...

I had the same problem which went away after I updated the firmware on my DVD drive. I had a TOSHIBA SD-M1401 and the fix for that was 111649-04 which can be found here:

Check to see if you have the same DVD drive and the firmware is not up to date.
