To anyone listening...we are considering an upgrade from GW 5.5.1 A subcontractor initially installed our current Groupwise product (on Netware 5.5) Are there any noteworthy problems that I could expect to encounter (silly question, I know). Though I feel pretty comfortable with NWAdmin and the general construction of our LAN, I'm reluctant to jump in and kill email for 70 people who would then most likely stone me.

Any suggestions, encouragement, etc... would be greatly appreciated.

Hello,

The upgrade from 5.5 to 6.1 is pretty easy. There is a great guide for it. Check out this link I don't work for them, I have just used the stuff they write, and it is good.

However, I would recommend that you upgrade to the latest GW5 service pack before upgrading. That might not be completely necessary, but have heard it is a good idea. Perhaps someone else, or the upgrade guide will give more information on that.

Make sure your dbs are in good shape for sure. Run GWCHK32 until you get a clean return. Make sure you are running Internet addressing (not addressing rules), before the migration. Trying to fix it afterwards is a mess.

Good luck.

Thanks, Bruce

The Caledonia manual looks promising, especially the chapter on upgrading "gradually". I appreciate your response.
