IP office newbie here, looking to do my first upgrade on a IPO, have a 412 ver 3.2, the plan is to get it to 5.0, I know I have to go to 4.2 then 5.0. They have VMpro voicemail, am I correct that I would also have to upgrade the VMpro..?

What files do I need for the pbx upgrade, I look at Avaya's website for the 4.2 software, and I see about 5 different files that I can download. It looks like the latest is 4.2.37, but there's 5 different files. Which one's would I need for the upgrade..?

This is the upgrade track for a 412
Multi-Stage Upgrades
Due to the need to adjust internal memory allocation and configuration storage, for some upgrades the control
unit may need to perform multi-stage upgrade process. The table below indicates the require upgrade paths.
Control Unit IP412
.bin File ip412.bin
Unvalidated Only 1.3 > 2.1
Validated 2.1 > 3.0 > 3.1 > 3.2 > 6.0.

So you will need the 412.bin file from a 3.2 ADMIN CD which can be found at on the right hand side of the page under software. You can save time by just downloading the .bin files instead of the whole admin cd. Use the 5.0 admin software to install the 3.2 bin files by pointing the bin file directory to wherever you copy the .bin files onto your harddrive. You are supposed to be able to upgrade from 5.0 but for some reason they left out the 412.bin file from the 3.2.999 directory in 5.0 and above.

Just upgrade the 412 to 5.0 straight away.
I personally would default the unit and reprogram it.
Sometimes the ARS is corrupt when LCR is used.

BAZINGA!

I'm not insane, my mother had me tested!

There is no 3.2.999 for the 412. O would take peters advise.

Or you could always read the R5 tech bulletin!!

Thanks, I'll give your suggestions a try. Be nice if they actually had upgrade procedures somewhere, I can't find anything on doing a step by step upgrade.

One of the other questions I had was, do I have to upgrade the VMPro voicemail at the sametime..?

The upgrade procedure is in the Tech Bulletin for R5, and yes you do need to upgrade the VMPro to the matching R5 release as well.

Before you upgrade anything, make sure you back up the config of the IPO as well as export the mdb file of the voicemail.

As far as the Tech Bulletin for R5, is there a specific tech bulletin number that I should look at for the upgrade..?

The last R5 is 5.0(26), its tech bulletin is TB 131. Its on the avaya ftp site where you would download the 5.0(26) Admin CD
