Read from ''Global IP Office Technical Bulletin 157''

''If Essential Edition is not visible in the license summary, an Essential Edition license must
be purchased and installed prior to attempting the 8.1 upgrade. ''

I'm looking into my custumer config, on the licence sumary I have :

Essential Edition Additional Voicemail Ports

So doest it count for a ''Essential Edition'' licence ?

I may be wrong, but I believe there is a difference between "Essential Edition Voicemail Ports" and Essential Edition software on the IP Office units.

No, there needs to be an essential or virtual essential edition licence present, do you see it in SSA? Are they running essential edition now?

No, my customer is running 6.0 version right now, heres the license I have :
Avaya IP Endpoints,
Essential Edition Additional Voicemail Port,
IP500 Voice Network Channel

The licence received for my upgrade is : IPO UPG R8.1+ LIC

So not sure if i'm doing it or not.

If you upgrade it "should" create a virtual essential licence, problem with that is if you have an issue with the system itself and you replace it then you lose the virtual licence and your replacement will not work as it does now until you buy one :)

That upgrade is fine. The system will create a Virtual Essential Edition license.

Don't forget the steps requires from 6.0 to 8.1
