The official Microsoft stance is that Windows 2000 Professional cannot be upgraded to Windows Server 2003. Does anyone know of a workaround? I have 3 machines that were built with 2KPro in production and I need them to be 2K3 Server.

Upgrading a server is one thing, but upgrading from a 2000 workstation??? I haven't tried it and never would...

Why not just format and install from scratch? What's the reasoning behind upgrading?

I have some proprietary applications running on the machine and an upgrade is much simpler, with less down time.

proprietary applications would be your first red flag...

Guess the only way to find out is to try it right? What is the configurations of the hard drives? single, mirror or raid 5?

You can use ghost to create a backup image of one computer and try the upgrade, assuming 2003 will allow the upgrade.

I second Karmic's advice, go out and purchase a new system, load 2003 to that system and move one of the software apps over. Then take the old system, format and move another app over, etc...

You'll have a much more stable and reliable install of the OS, with much less downtime.
