I'm upgrading an Office97 secured application to XP. The backend converted just fine. But the frontend is giving me fits, evidently something to do with workgroup .MDW file.

Scenario: After clicking the frontend, I enter my Admin user account & password, but instead of the Convert/Open dialog box, instead I get a message box "The current user account doesn't have permission to convert or enable. . . .".

I'm going nuts trying to figure out what's going on! I've doublechecked user acct permissions, no other users attached, correct workgroup, everything looks perfect. Help!

When you upgraded your 97 database to A2K2 were you using the same work group file as you used in A97?

Yes, am using the same workgroup file. I've sinced been able to resolve the problem by (1) stripping all security off the Office97 application, (2) then converting it to OfficeXP, and lastly (3) rejoining the original workgroup file. Evidently security does not always convert smoothly in the upgrade process. Live & learn!
