Hi,

I need to upgrade from 4.1.9 to 4.1.21 and have done the following:

Back-up DB using MYSQL Admin
Removed 4.1.9 using add remove
Left the directory intact
Installed 4.1.21
Ran MYSQL Admin and my data is still there. I also ran my web app and it appears fine.

Is this the correct way to update MYSQL or is there a better way.

Cheers,

DZON

That's fine but a lot of work.

To upgrade between minor versions, you should only need to stop the server, overwrite the existing program directory with the new version (using the non-installer package), and restart the server.

To upgrade between major versions, it is recommended that you dump your data using mysqldump, stop the server, upgrade the program, restart the server, and re-import your data.

Thanks very much!

Dzon
