Hi
I have several i2050 softphones (version 1.4.0) I want to upgrade to the latest verson.
I have downloaded the upgrade from the Nortel website. When I try to install the upgrade it fails saying you must have a previous version of the 2050 installed to be able to upgrade. Which I obviously do. Then it terminates the program.

If I have my softpphone open on my desktop and run the upgrade. It says you must close your 2050 softphone to continue with the upgrade. Then it terminates the program.

Has anyone encountered this before?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

You have to have the IP softphone ver 2 before you can run that upgrade. It upgrades the base v.2 softphone with fixes etc.

There is no upgrade from a version 1 to a version 2. If you want a version 2, then you need to order a new CD and install fresh. Once you have version 2 installed, then you can use the version 2 upgrades.

Thanks. Do you know if the version 2 softphone works with the version 1 bcm50 or does the whole thing need to be upgraded?

Official position from Nortel is that the IP Softphone v2 requires BCM 50 Rls 2.

Thanks gwebster.

We only bought this system about a month ago. As I see you are a vendor could you advise me on the best way to get my kit upgraded and do you think I should bear any of the costs for this or is it our vendors responsibility.

Depends on when your order was placed. Rls 2 is only recently out, so if you ordered it before the date Rls 2 went GA, then you are on the hook. If you ordered it AFTER Rls 2 went GA, then you can try talking to your vendor and ask why they didn't give you the latest release?

Or, you can purchase an SRS contract which will entitle you to all software upgrades that are released for the duration of your contract.

I think I would try talking with your vendor first.

IP Softphone 2050 version 2.xx will work on BCM 1.0. I tried this last week (running on Windows Vista) and everything seems to work fine.

Just on the offchance. Have you tried it with the Algo 4900 USB Analog Terminal Adapter?

Hi gwebster

I have the USB ATA but it doesn't fully function with softphone version 1. On a handset that provides it's own power I can receive and transmit but none of the dialing functions work and no hookflash.
On a handset that doesn't provide it's own power there is nothing.
Looking on the web I can see it's only certified to work with version 2 of the softphone.
With riteeh saying version 2 softphone works well with release 1 of the BCM, I wondered if anyone had tried out the USB ATA under these conditions.

As an update to earlier posts. We have gone back to our supplier about being upgraded to the latest version of the BCM as our kit was ordered in April 07 and release 2 came out in December 06.

Arguments are raging as I type. Will post an outcome as and when there is one.

USB ATA will ONLY work with the v2 version. Confirmed with Nortel that v1 does not have the interface code.
