I've never carried out such an upgrade, always recommending that wherever possible a complete hard disk wipe and fresh install be carried out.

I have a user who I believe is going to insist on such an upgrade. Will a specific upgrade CD be needed, or is a normal full version XP CD capable of allowing an over-the-top upgrade?

You are able to use a Windows XP upgrade disk yes.

But ... "or is a normal full version XP CD capable of allowing an over-the-top upgrade?" ...

opps, yes it will, just plop in the CD and chose install windows XP and when it asks full install or upgrade, you know what to do. I do suggest however that before you do this, run Disk Defragmenter and back up all your important files (if any), that should do it.

Thanks. Just wanted to be prepared and know my options in case I get presented with the full version CD rather than the upgrade one!
