Hello everyone,
We have SQL Server 2000 and I need to upgrade to SQL server 2005. We purchased a new server and I installed SQL Server 2005 on it. My question is: can I simply use the Copy Database Wizard to copy all of the Databases from the old (2000) server to the new (2005) server and then change the compatibility lever to "SQL Server 2005 (90)" then run sp_updatestats and I'm done? Or do I have to install the SQL Server 2005 on the old server and basically go through the upgrade process? I have about 40 SQL databases and they are used by Microsoft Dynamics (accounting system). Thank you!

You can use the copy db wizard or restore from backup. If you can take the other databases off-line. You can also detach copy the mdf and ldf and attach. You don't have to install SQL 2005 on the old server.

All you need to do is backup and restore the user databases from the old server to the new server. Then change the compatibility level from 80 to 90 and you should be good.

Be sure that the version of Solomon that you are using is certified for SQL 2005.

As an FYI All Solomon 6.5 databases should be in SQL 2000 (80) Compatibility mode. The same goes for FRX (if you are using it).
