Hi,

I have a client who is currently running SBS2000 on a single server and has finally realised that he needs to upgrade both his hardware & software.

Now I understand that there isn't a direct upgrade path from SBS 2000 to SBS 2008 so logic says it would be better to install a completely new server (running SBS2008). However, my client would like to utilise the existing server on the network but it's also my understanding that you can't have two SBS servers on an SBS network.

With this in mind, I wonder if anyone can point me in the right direction for the best way to implement this upgrade?

Many thanks.

Kind regards.

Jeff middleton swing migration?

Buy SBS premium and you get a second OS license. Have 1 SBS2008 and one 2008 server.

Thanks Paul, that's great, I wasn't aware of that...

Kind regards.

I really doubt that the same server that is currently running SBS 2000 would then run Windows 2008 though... But I believe that the extra license includes downgrade rights, so you should be able to install a 32-bit version of Windows 2003 on that old server using the additional license that comes with Premium.
