Let's say there is brand new OUT OF THE BOX Digital Expansion Module which has been already supplied with a 4.1.xx or a 4.2.xx software level.

Is it necessary to make an 3.2.99 upgrade first before the latest's firmware (eg 4.2.17) upgrade?

Silly question, i know but docs advise to upgrade on 3.2.99 first. What they don't say is what we should do if the expansion has already newest firm.
Regards...

I would do it, that way you know its been done. even if it has been done it wont hurt to do it again and it only takes 2 minutes. :)

also, 4.1 on and expansion module is actually 2.1 in firmware. modules are always 2 higher.

Don't forget expansion modules show 2 higher than their true software version so 4.1 or 4.2 is in fact 2.1 or 2.2 if it's on 4.2.17 it will say 6.2.17, even new ones need upgrading through 3.2.999 I have not had one yet that doesn't anyway :)

I don't think it is necessary as I can not see Avaya hooking the modules up to a system and upgrade them the same way we do, they flash the system via a different procedure I bet or already in the manufacturing process. But having that said it can't hurt either, or shouldn't :p

But brand new out the box they come on 2. something (4.something) Westi, so they all need doing :)

Hm! Now i am getting somewhere... so, if i have an expansion on 6.2.11 ver and i don't know if it has been already been supply with 3.2.99 i can downgrade it without an problems...

Once on a DS expansion with a 6.2.11 level, when i tried to upgrade it on 6.2.17, i got a 'time out' message while the files were been copied on that. Then the DS died and send it back on avaya for replacement.
Is there any explanation about this? A 3.2.99 missing ver maybe?

I have found on the latest 4.2 releases that I get timeouts and quite frequently too, I have never had them before now, they usually upgrade/downgrade on the secong go though. I often go down to 3.2.999 and back up if I don't know who did the upgrade and have not "bricked" a box yet...you must have been unlucky :)
