I am onsite and am trying to upgrade an avaya from 8.1 43 to 11.
I was given an SD card that had been recreated to version 11 by a colleague and told it will just need turning off, and the sd card swapped, but it seems stuck in a boot loop, the red lights on the front remain solid, and the rear cpu, sd card and option go from green to orange then start again.
I have left it for 20 mins, i have rebooted it, i have shut down, popped the sd card out and rebooted but it doesn't appear to be happening.

The bootloader requiring upgrading that i see on other threads - is that on the chassis or the sd card? have we missed a step by simply plugging in a version 11 sd card?

you will nee to upgrae the IPO to either a later version of V8.1 (I cant remember which is the min version) or V9.0 to reprtition the internal memory before 11 will work.

Do things on the cheap & it will cost you dear

Thanks, i was beginning to suspect as much, will the bins work? or needs full admin install from manager?

8.1.69 is the minimum step upgrade from pre 9 installs. You should be able to use just the bins by pointing the Directory for bins under preferences to where your bins are located.

thanks guys, the upgrade of the first system today took a few hours as used bins then upgraded fro mmy manager tool on laptop to version 11.
as i was sitting around waiting i found a fantastic guide which i followed for the 2nd upgrade - upgrading to the required version with bin files and then using my recreated sd card with the config and licence file in to boot to 11 quickly.
as the op in that post also says, my company "believes" throwing the engineer in at the deep end is best method, i think its dreadful and only leads to increased engineer and customer frustration when stuff dont work. I keep telling them that junior engineers like myself need experienced people on hand, not someone on the end of a phone that also wasnt aware of this method and thought that the upgrade via manager tool was the way to go..
Dreading the upgrade coming up which has contact store and needs migrating to a application server, no doubt ill just be told its "next, next, next," during install.. (sorry venting some frustrations ) :)

If I were you I would do some research before jumping head first into that next upgrade. Migrating to an app server isn't as simple as an upgrade. If your senior engineers weren't aware of the bootloader upgrade needed from 8 to 9, I would question their judgement of chucking you under the bus on that. Contact Store was replaced with Media Manager and that migration might not be a 'next, next' install either. The last line in the quote below seems a bit contridictory.

'Media Manager will be the primary recording/archiving solution with R11. Media Manager
in R11.0 enforces migration of Contact Recorder data as part of the R11.0 upgrade.
Media Manager search capabilities are improved for both Administrator and User with R11.0.
Contact Recorder is no longer supported with IP Office R11.0 and is not part of the
R11.0 software. (There is no migration of Contact Store data with R11.0.)'

Another important thing to note when upgrading from Contact Recorder to Media Manager is that the Contact Recorder Licence does not get automatically upgraded to a Media Manager one when submitting the license migration to your Avaya rep. Make sure you also get the Media Manager License when buying licensing for the new system.

MM will work for 90 days on eval licensing but will completely stop when this period is up, and it is not obvious that MM is unlicensed until it breaks. Just something to keep in mind.
