Hello Guys we have a 8010 core switch that needs updating to ver 5 and hardware replacement is needed.
What is the best fibre option to replace the old 8608 sx blades ? and do we need new fan trays to accomodate ?

Also is the 8648 GTR copper blade compatible with ver 5 ??

Also would the old 8608 SXE work in the new ver 5 ??

Any help much appreciated.

Big thanks

For version 5.x you can use your R-blades and E-blades, which cover your 8648GTR and 8608SXE blades - I have both in operations on 5.1.1.1 systems.

If you install RS blades, you will need to replace both fan trays in your 8010 chassis with high-speed fan trays. An option to replace your 8608SXE blade would be the 8634XGRS (8 GigE ports and 24 SFP slots); you will have to purchase the SFP GBICs to terminate your fiber.

8692SF processors are recommended for 5.x, although I believe you can use 8691SF with 256 mb of RAM.

...depending on how many fibers you need to terminate (and with more GigE and less fiber showing up in cores) it may be cheaper and more cost effective to purchase a 8648GTRS blade and a 5xxx switch, using MLT and VLACP to attach the switch via copper to the 8600.

Great advice guys ,will take on board . Big thanks
