Hi guys,

does anybody know a good whitepaper in the net for upgrade from 8.0.5 to 8.1.7.
Because the explanation in the helpfiles of Oracle 8.1.7 version is not very exact.
So please if anybody know a good and sure way to make an upgrade please let me know.

Many thanks in advance for every hint

Peter

You should check out Oracle8i Migration, Chapter 7, "Upgrading from a Previous Version 8 Release to the New Oracle8i Release", in the 8.1.7 online documentation (you can view this on technet.oracle.com also).

Specifically look at the section "Upgrading the Database to the New Oracle8i Release", it goes through the migration process step by step.

Hi,
If possible, do a 'clean' install of 8.1.7 and import your 8.0.x data into it..

( export it first, of course...FULL or by USER if you want to clean up the existing one at the same time - we all have 'dead' users/schemas hanging around, don't we? )

Clean installs avoid many possible problems with in-place migrations..

Just my 2c..

Turkbear,
What kind of problems with in-place migrations that you know of? I'm starting one from 8.1.6.3 to 8.1.7.4
