Upgrade 412 to 500v2

We need to upgrade a customer from an IPO 412 (5.0.26) to an IPO 500v2 R8.
The existing 412 has 1 dual PRI blade in it, as well as 2 vcm cards.

Our plan is to use a legacy card carrier in the 500 so we can reuse the dual pri blade, plus install a VCM-32.

Does anyone see a potential problem? And most importantly, will we be able to upload the data base from the 412 to the 500v2?

Thanks.

You need to consider endpoint licences, R5 didn't need them but R8 does, have you considered reusing one of the VCM cards too? The config will adjust itself accordingly when you upload it to the new system :)

I already bought enough end point licenses to cover us on the 500, but thanks for pointing that out.

Dont think we need to re-use any of the existing vcm cards due to the fact that the existing ones are just a vcm-8 and a vcm-16, so with a vcm-32 I am ahead of the game. The customer only has about 25 voip phones.

Using the "old" vcm16 card on a legacy card gives you 48 ip endpoint lics for free. then add a combo card and you'll have 26 vcm channels, 48 ip endpoint lics, 6 DS stations, two alog stations and two ( four ) trunks at a very good price.
Keep in mind that mobility features don't work on old PRIs, mobility is one of the main reasons for our customers to upgrade to R8, we often keep the old PRI and then we add a SIP trunk for mobility

If it ain't dutch it ain't much

I (and others) have found that mobility features still work on legacy cards, not tried in the last couple of releases though :)

I've never tested it, I think the mobility clients on Android a iPhone will work just fine. Its the option for transferring calls with ## which may not work.

Intrigrant,

I didn't know that about re-using the old vcm-16! Thats a great idea, Thanks.

Do you know if there is a way to program the system so that the IPO doesnt actually use any of the channels on the VCM-16?, as I suspect it might be NG due to a lightning strike, which is why we are upgrading to begin with.

You cannot select which vcm channels are used but i can give you a hint, ip office group the channels together and it will use them top-down sequentially, so the card in the highest slot is used first.
But if the card is broken then it may not be a good idea to install it.
