Upgrade 2x36GB to 2x140GB on x335

Hello.

I upgrade my x335 with LSI 1030 from 2x36gb to 2x140gb disks

Put out first 36gb disk
Put in first 140GB disk
Wait for syncing of mirror
Put out second 36GB disk
Put in second 140GB disk
Wait for syncing mirror

Now i have the two 140gb disks mirrored but i don't see free space.

Hi

I'd repost in the Windows Server forums. You will most likely need to perform some Windows changes in order to detect the changes, such as rescanning for disks.

Whatever you do, *don't* simply initiate a rescan without understanding what's involved more fully. I have known people completely kill the volume in Windows ...

One thing you could do is 'break' the mirror and make the drives appear as two individual drives instead of a mirror. Use Partition magic to expand the first drive. Then recreate the mirror being careful to specify the expanded drive as primary. It will rebuild to the secondary and you should have what you wanted.

Fist of all thanks for supporting me

Here is how i solved it if anyone is at same situation.


Power up machine and enter LSI configuration (CTRL+C)

Broke mirror, and take out PRIMARY DISK

Boot with necromantux cd -->

This is a linux life cd with diagnostic tools and gparted (free partition magic) is there --> please read documentation carefully !!!

Resize partition and apply changes.

Reboot machine to check new size, and YES, SPACE IS THERE !!

Reboot again and enter lsi configuration for rebuild mirror.

Put in the outed disk and rescan disks.

Be sure resized disk is configured as primary on RAID1 rules.

Save and wait for syncronization.

Happy new resized mirror!!
