Hi all,

I want to upgrade my Sun Solaris OS from 2.6 to 2.8.
I want to know will there be any effect on the application (i.e,source code)because of this upgradation?? (Like changes in system calls, compilation flags, environment
variable settings etc). If yes can any one please brief me or send me some documents which specifies the above.

Thanks & Regards

It shouldn't be a problem, but no guarantees!

The only gotcha we've encountered in recent migrations from 2.6 to 8 was in the LD_LIBRARY_PATH setting used by the Oracle user which had /usr/ccs/lib at the beginning, which confused ld, the dynamic linker. Moving it to the end of LD_LIBRARY_PATH resolved the issue. Annihilannic.

Annihilannic:
Sun Support suggested a re-install, because filesystem
has changed and might lead to unpredictable results
depending on the application. Your comment on this?

Thank You!

I also recommend a new install. Then restore the setup and data.
Upgrade are often as long as a new install/restore and are risky. Too bad I.T. is not cash business
