Hello,

I have a shared document that I intend to use as an order form. The idea is that all users will open the document (which is an MS Word document with a table), insert a new order and then close it. At the end of each week, one user will check the document for all the new orders. However, when I open the document, make a change and then try to save it, it is trying to save into the hard drive, rather than SharePoint. I am sure there is a very simple solution to this, but I don't know what it is!

Thanks for any help you can offer.

Hello,

Have you made sure that you do not just click on the document title and open it as read only? Have you chosed to open i through the Drop down list and chose "Edit in Microsoft Word"? If not then it will open as read only.

Also if the document is checked out to someone else you are not able to save the document unless the person checks the document back in.

Regards,
Thomas

This situation begs for a data-based solution, not a Word document. You should look into building a Web part (form) that gathers this information into SQL Server, and then build a report that returns the info you need.

Thanks for the suggestions. In the end I went for the fairly low-tech, but effective, solution of just creating a new list. This does the job the way I had hoped!
