Hey All,

We have a Crystal Enterprise server setup. I create/update my reports in CR9.2

Our enterprise server is on our network and in Michigan, while i am in Florida.

In Crystal, when I have a local copy of the report, and do

Save as >> select enterprise >> Login >> and select the report i would like to overwrite I get an error saying something to the effect, Critical error when atempting to communicate with the APS.

Any ideas on how to fix this? I do want to have to delete the report and reupload it through the web interface

My login is part of the Administrators group.

Can you save to CE using any method?

That's a nebulous sort of error, and of course you have to makesure that all services are running, in particular the APS.

Also try saving a generic report there, or one of Crystal's samples.

Andhave you tried opening a report that's already on CE?

I tried saving a simple report, with no luck.
I can open a report off enterprise, but cant resave it.

The only way we can update reports right now is to delete them from the Management console and then reupload them. But then the schedules are removed.

You said to check to see if all the services are running? How can i do this? This is housed at our parent company and i may or may not have access to do this.

Check using the CMC or CCM to learn if the CE services are all running.

So if youopen a report from CE, move a field and hit save it doesn't save?

Thats correct. i will check again tomarrow.
It also takes along time to open reports off the Enterprise.

I kind of just contributed that to it pulling the information between states.

Yeah, sounds like a network issue, a timeout of some sort, perhaps the CE or NT logs will reveal something.

Also, post what a long time means, 2-3 minutes, 1/2 hour, 2 months.... ;)

We're working on technical issues, specifics matter.

Thanks synapsevampire..

I will check again in the morning and let you know.

There is not something simple i could be doing wrong right? Seems pretty strait forward.

Good Morning.

Ok, so it did not take very long to open the report this morning.

I made a quick change and clicked safe, and instantly got an error and the program wanted to shut down.

ReportAdd.exe - Application Error.
"The instruction at "0x7c910de3" referenced memory at "0xffffff8". The memory could not be "read". Click OK to terminat the program

One thing to check is that the ports that the various CE services eg Output FRS are open if you have a firewall between where you are and the CE server. This has caused me probs in the past

Not very long and it wanted to shut down...

So not very long means 1 second or 22 days? I thought we touched on posting specifics.

And wanted to shutdown means that Crystal Reports returned an error that you decided was unimportant to share because you chatted with it and convinced it not to shut down?

Please, try to take a professional approach to problem resolution.

It takes less then 5 seconds to open the report.
When i click the save button, within 5 seconds i get the error message.

The first error is the Mircorsoft crital error, asking if i want to send this error.

Then i get a msg box stating

ReportAdd.exe - Application Error.
"The instruction at "0x7c910de3" referenced memory at "0xffffff8". The memory could not be "read". Click OK to terminat the program

There are a few instances when I receive this error, and it's generally due to some complexity of the report.

If you take a basic report that hits an Access database, such as one of the sample reports and it still does this, then there's something odd afoot. If not, then it'ssomething in the report itself.

If I have unused parameters, and in a few other instances, I can repeat that same error on my install.

Well I created 2 simple reports.

One out of our oracle database and one from the SQL server.

The oracle report seemed to work, but CR stopped responding. I did nothing for 5 minutes before checking task manager.

The second report out of sql server instantly gave me the errors i mentioned above.

I looked for the sample reports, but have to get with our help desk for the CDs and such for CR.

The real report i would like to save back to the enterprise is a fairly complext report, with a subreport. Both the main report and the subreport run a stored procedure.

There are lots of forumlas in the report and subreport.
There are no unused paramaters.

This report runs fine when added through the crystal management console.

Anything else goofy in the reports i should be looking for?

Ok, so i recently created 3 new reports that have never been on the CE.

I decided let me try and save as >> select folder on enterprise and BOOM they worked.

These report had no paramaters. They did not have the data saved in them, and in 2 seconds they were saved to CE.

These new reports are from another SQL server that most reports are not generated from.

So it must be something in the other reports that is causing the problem.

Exactly.

So the connectivity, parameters, there are a myriad of things that can cause it, I'm sorry to share.

Anyway, the good news is that CE is working, you nowhave the timeconsuming, annoying task of figuring out what is causing the dilema.

Dynamic parameters can cause it as well if they use a connection nto set up on CE.

So, problem solved, sorta...

-k

I guess kind sorta ya, but why would the simple report i created with only one record and 2 columns not upload?

I do not have dynamic parameters.

All the reports run fine when uploaded through the CMC

Well make sure that you have the latest service packs on CE and on CR.

Honestly, I have to admit in classes and when training developers that it's somewhat voodoo, I can always isolate the offending aspect, but not why...

-k

Ok.. so the other programmer here tried to save the report with no problems. So it must be a problem with my PC.

Any ideas on how to correct this?

Are these the 2 service packs.

I have never run those, but not sure when the company bought CR9 if these would have already been applied to the program.

I am going to log on to his computer as myself and try saving the reports to see if it is a network permission issue.
