We are currently on Firmware Version 0625C39. I went into our signaling server > Ip Telephony > Software > Telephony Firmware, and under Latest Firmware Version for IP Phone 1140E i tsays 2.1B (0625C1B.bin) New Version Available. Under Local Firmware Version it says "Not Available". On our IP phones themselves the Firmware Version says 0625C39. Our vendor is saying that if we are not having a problem not to update the firmware, however we purchased Algo USB Analog Terminal Adapters and they work on the USB port of a PC with an I2050 Softphone but not on the USB port of an 1140E. I was told we needed to update the firmware. Anyone aware of any issues of updating the firmware? If I update it and then start having problems is there anyway to revert back to the old firmware?

I would add the new firmware to the SS and reboot one phone to test. After the phone registers and updates it's firmware then you can change the firmware back on the SS to the C39. As long as you only reboot one phone that is the only phone that will upgrade. You can then test out your ATAs and also make sure you don't have any other issues with the new firmware. If you do just reboot the phone once the C39 is active on the SS and it will downgrade to that firmware.

I downloaded and uploaded to the SS. I then rebooted my phone and it didnt download the new firmware. Do I need to click distribute?

yes..
Our vendor is saying that if we are not having a problem not to update the firmware

is that your vendor or one tech that is afraid something will break..

i would go ahead a push the firmware.. there is not a current ntp or tb that is requesting a hold

when a vendor tells you anything that sounds ?.. ask for the tech bulliten from nt that describes the problem

Well I am assuming they dont because when I looked at our currency file it hadnt been updated since 2005. We have problems with our vendor installing peps. We usually have to experience the problem then wait a week before they will install the patch. Worse is that its covered under our maintenance agreement. I will push the firmware tonight and see what happens.

I pushed the new Unistim 3.1 to a few phones and haven't had any issues. It even cleared up a couple minor issues we had been scratching our heads about. I would still push the firmware to a couple and test just in case. Push on your vendor there are lots of minor and major issues that are corrected with Deplists and Loadware updates to the CS, SS, and MGCs. If you have a problem that needs to go to Nortel you will have to install all the patches before you get help.

How do I install to just one phone? What exactly happens when I press distibute? Does it push it out right then? I am afraid to push it during the day because that would piss a lot of people off here :). Does it give me the option to distribute to just one phone when I press it?

The distribute loads it in the SS. You can distribute it, reboot a phone, let the phone register and download the firmware then go back and distribute the old firmware. The phones will not get the new firmware unless you reboot them.

I am about to distribute the firmware and it asks me to select distibution points. I have four options our signaling server and our 3 voice media gateway cards. Do I need to distribute it to everything or just the media cards?

Yes, you need to distribute to all the elements in the node if you are satisfied with the firmware. As you know the phones won't be updated unless you force a firmware download or if you to and isetResetAll.

So if I distribute to all the elements, does that distribute to our branches with BCM's connected?

Can I load the software to the elements during the day without it affecting anything, then just reset my phone to make sure it works, or should this be done at night?

Just to clarify... the new sets will not get the new firmware until I manually reset them or do an isetresetall.

You can do this during the day. The only sets affected will be the ones, you manually reset.

on my experience all phones resets itself after putting the latest firmware, so i advice to do that out of hours,it will not take long
