Hello,
I'm running Domino 6.0.2 CF1 and planning to update the server to 6.5. I have never ever before updated a Domino server and I'm wondering how this is generally done? I have the 6.5 CD's. I tried to search Lotus site on the web but didn't find any manuals or whitepapers or anything related to this(found answers only for R4 to R5 update).

That is because generally making a point update is no big deal.

From R4 to R5 was a major upgrade because of the difference in file structure (ODS numbers changed to reflect that). From R5 to R6 was much less of a hassle.

The only instance where a point upgrade was a possible issue was from R4 to R4.6 - where R4.6 introduced web compatibility and the HTTP task, as well as the first in-line HTML abilities (if I am not mistaken).

In other words, from an R6.0x release to an R6.5 release should be a no-brainer. Just stop the server, pop in the CD and do the upgrade.
When the server restarts (Domino of course, not the OS), it will automatically target the necessary upgrades. You will probably get a question somewhere in the console, so pay attention and don't leave the console until the server is totally back on-line.

Just yesterday I completed an upgrade from a beta 2 release to R6.5.1 and there were absolutely no issues. I fail to find any cause of concern in this area.

Thanks. I tried that on a test enviroment and it worked just fine. It's just annoying that either there are no upgrade manuals for first time upgraders or i just didn't find any. I searched Lotus site, installation CD's and googled this.

I understand. Indeed, there used to be a wealth of information available for Domino/Notes from Lotus directly.
Unfortunately, IBM took over and has visibly decided that you will only get the info if you pay for it.
So, the Knowledge Base - cornerstone for any developer for a number of years - has disappeared from the web. Is it still updated even ? Also, many articles of great use, such as the one explaining the algorythm of the @Unique function, have disappeared from the Notes forums at IBM/Lotus.

It is a great shame that the god of Money-Grubbing had to take over all this good stuff, but there you have it.

In any case, you did well to try a test environment first.

Pascal.
