Does anyone know what process i run to collect / update client information in the sms database? i have a few querys that i use to separate which clients need certain hotfixes, ive applied the hotfixes but these machines do not drop out of the query, i am pretty sure this is because the system is not collecting the new hotfix patch level information

Yeah that info wouldnt be updated until the client uploads its changes, some guys reset it to happen hourly, but it depends on your NW traffic and what your willing to do as far as scheduling software and updates HW updates.

If you have secondary sites with a PMP and have that throttled to connect overnight that would be a factor too.

its strange, i rolled out these updates on monday, and i got all successes, its thursday and collections have not updated yet. I've forced both hardware and software inventory cycles to no avail. :-(

wow i think i figured it out. An example query i used was:

select distinct SMS_R_System.Name, SMS_R_System.LastLogonUserName, SMS_G_System_OPERATING_SYSTEM.LastBootUpTime, SMS_G_System_PATCHSTATE.ID, SMS_G_System_PATCHSTATE.Product, SMS_G_System_PATCHSTATE.Title, SMS_G_System_PATCHSTATE.Status from SMS_R_System inner join SMS_G_System_PATCHSTATE on SMS_G_System_PATCHSTATE.ResourceID = SMS_R_System.ResourceId inner join SMS_G_System_SYSTEM on SMS_G_System_SYSTEM.ResourceID = SMS_R_System.ResourceId inner join SMS_G_System_OPERATING_SYSTEM on SMS_G_System_OPERATING_SYSTEM.ResourceID = SMS_R_System.ResourceId where SMS_G_System_PATCHSTATE.Status = "Applicable" and SMS_G_System_SYSTEM.SystemRole = "Workstation" and SMS_G_System_PATCHSTATE.ID = "MS05-024"

this query would give me all computers that need may's updates. I think i realized why my collections were not updating. All the patches i installed were based off of the new Microsoft update scan tool, not the MSBA one. And i bet that this query looks for msba based patches. Thus, patches get applied but to this query, it does not seem like.

I have having a similar problem. I have deployed all the latest security updates and the advertisement status indicates all were successful. However, I am still showing large numbers as having the updates applicable.

I am still at SMS 2.0 SP5 (in the process of developing an upgrade plan) and I am using the SecurityUpdate tool that was in the SMS2.0 feature pack.

Is there a newer version of the scan tool that I need? I spot checked a couple of machines in the list. One did not in fact have the updates. I had to update the Windows Update software from the windowsupdates.com website. The otehr machine did have the updates installed however, I had to upgrade her windowsupdate software before we could see the status.
