I have just installed SP3 on my Asus X51RL laptop which originally came with Vista HP. The install was actually through Windows Updates but since then I have been unable to perform any other updates. I had to manually install IE7.

Is this normal? I know this problem existed with the Beta versions but I would have thought it would have been solved now that its an Automatic Update.

I hope it's not as I'm busy deploying it through WSUS

I have sinced installed on a Dell Inspiron 8600 directly after a fresh install. During the backup portion it gave me an error of not being able to copy xpsp2res.dll eventhough this was in the directory windows was looking in. Apart from this no other probs.

I also installed on a gigabyte desktop system with no probs.

Tell us more about your Windows Updates problem, are you just seeing this on one machine or all machines you mention?

What errors are you seeing (if any)?

I have been dealing with the same problem as you - although I have found that it is not just SP3 that is the problem but SP3 and some other update (I have not narrowed it down yet) that conspire to break Windows Update. I have noticed this on several Dells fresh from the factory (my policy is to install all Windows/Office updates before giving a PC to a user); no crapware installed as these are business machines. So far I have been able to reproduce the error on every Optiplex 755 and Precision T3400 I have tried it on.

I have found that the following Microsoft KB solves the issue:

KB910359 - You receive a "0x800A01AE" error message or a "0x080070570" error message when you try to connect to the Windows Update Web page or to the Microsoft Update Web page in Windows Server 2003 or Windows XP

Following the manual steps in the KB fixes the issue for me.
