Hi
Pls help me in solving this DW problem.

I build a data warehouse based on a database named "CMS" in SQL Server.
I delete a record in a table called "contractor" in CMS database by using SQL Server Manager but after refreshing the cube in OLAP, I still see the name of the conductor in the record I have deleted. That means the data in OLAP have not changed.
I have tried refreshing the datasource, the connection, even processing all cube but there's still the name.
How can I update the DW when the data in original source change ?

Thanks in advance for your help.

I dont think refresh (Update in Cognos) the cube will help, coz refresh will just fetch NEW records from the database into the cube. You need to create the cube again in the sense, the cube is created again based on the existing model.
You dont need to create the model (mdl in Cognos) again.

With regards

Seems something is being missed... How are you reviewing the cube data? Through Analysis Manager or though an OLAP app such as Proclarity?

Depending on the amount of data you are bringing into the staging area, I would recommend to schedule the DTS package to run nightly, I would not recommend uploading data as it changes in the source.

Remember that you should delete the data from the staging area(DW) prior to refreshing the data.

The last part of the package should have an "Analysis services processing task." This task would update the cube files...

If you follow these steps, I don’t see how the data would remain in the cube files.

Hope that helps...
regards,

MDA
