After XP automatically updated itself with some updates the next reboot when i tried to log in i was greeted with a message as follows.

The system cannot log you on due to the following error

The program issued a command but the command length is incorrect

Please try again or consult your system administrator

The only way i can getb in is by rebooting and selecting last known settings that worked. I cannot uninstall the updates as they have been grouped together.

Anybody have any ideas on how i can resolve this issue.

The PC is a P4 1.8 on a qdi platinix 2 board with 384mb ram

go back to a restore point prior to the updates

I have tried this. But the updates reinstall after a few days and back to square one. I do not want to switch off auto updates

Find out what updates are being installed and look at what is being changed by them. Or, list the updates that are being auto installed up here and perhaps someone can give you an idea of why it would be causing that error.

I found this as the description of the update that is causing the login error:

"This cryptic security problem comes from the way Windows determines privilege. This privilege controls what programs can run, the types of changes that can be made on a system or access levels for a user. In particular, the Windows Kernel and LSASS could allow elevation of privilege on a system. In other words, users or progams will be able to do things they shouldn't - it's a bit like giving your car keys to children."

Since this is a windows update concerning the privelages on your computer, if you don't have a password on your administrator account, it may be causing problems - i.e. it might think you are a "hacker" even though you are logging in locally. Try making an admin password (or a password for all of you accounts) and try installing the update again.

I hate it when this crap happens. MS really needs to issue a patched version of this update.
