update problems

hello i am running win xp home sp2(couldnt find a xp home forum)and when i try to access the updates it does its scan and then errors out saying:
files required to use windows update are no longer registered or installed on your computer:then gives options of register or reinstall check ,,so i go ahead and run that and still get the same results, any ideas?? thanks

Try registering the DLL's that are used by windows updates
Go To Start
Run type in each of these hitting enter after each you should get a message saying they have succeeded

regsvr32 wuapi.dll
regsvr32 wups.dll
regsvr32 wuaueng.dll
regsvr32 wucltui.dll
regsvr32 atl.dll
regsvr32 msxml3.dll

This article (Windows 2000) talks about reregistering a MSXML3.dll, see if you can adapt it to suite your problem?
