This will be my first update. We've had GP 8.0 for a year now and the boss wants the upgrade completed. At ver 8 what we are doing works well. GP is on a terminal server and the data base on an SQL and there are 10 licenced clients running XP sp2. Both are new servers and have plenty of HD space and overkill on RAM. The reason I mention this is I would like to do the trial update I've heard about. Is the trial mererly a full upgrade but the clients are still usung 8.0? When I run the CD for 9.0 does it actually destroy anthing associated with 8.0 and our existing operation? Will the data base get updated or do I do that manually before giving it to the clients? The instructions say that 9.0 will be installed in a folder different from 8.0. How do I do the trial and then cut over?

I've gone to the Customer source and pulled down the update instructions and a copy of SP #2. A couple things that I'm unsure about are the features I'm using in 8.0 and what I need to chose on the 9.0 install. Also the mention of feature keys leads me to believe that I may need to copy them for reinput. Any help would be appreciated.

only problem I had when I did that upgrade a while back was the custom reports (as usual), but as far as GP upgrades go, this was by far the easiest in my opinion.

I did a test upgrade on a test box (mine - SQL develop edition, but...) so that made me a bit more comfortable and allowed my users to play with Dynamics 9 before it showed up on their box.

I can answer this question for you

start GP 8.0, go to help-about MS GP-Options
and in the bottom left corner you have a printer. This prints a report with everything you have installed on your current GP and a good reference on what you need to have in place after upgrading to 9.0

Thanks folks. That's more info than my VAR has supplied me with. I've had to figure out most of this entire system myself. "The old cut and run routine."
Thanks again.
If anyone else wants to add anything I'm sure I will learn from any info shared. Thanks mods for the FAQ 's and the site info.
