Hi,
recently I've installed a bluetooth software pack on my Windows XP system. Everything is fine except that installer add this ugly 'My Bluetooth Places' icon on my desktop. I can't delete it and I can't remove it form 'customize desktop' dialog cuz it is not listed there.

How can I remove it from my desktop? I don't want to use any third parity tweak software.

Big thanx in advance.

If its on desktop its 90 percent chance a shortcut. Double check by right clicking on it and going to properties. If it is then just highlight it from desktop and delete.

It may be installed under "All Users". Navigate to "Documents and Settings\All Users\DeskTop" and delete the shortcut from there.

It is not a shortcut, and it is not palced in C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Desktop - thai folder is empty.

When I right-click icon I get menu [open, explore, bluetooth setup wizard, -, create shortcut] - it opens \My Bluetooth Places' folder - the same as in 'My Coputer'.

Thanx for the link, but as I write. I don't want to use external/additional tools.

If that ones not the shortcut, just drag and drop it to another location then such as programs menu on taskbar or you can drag and drop it to c: and then create a shortcut on taskbar or wherever you wish.

TweakUI is a Microsoft program, it is small and free and well respected. It gives you access to settings not normally available in XP, including removing this type of Desktop Icon.

If you Google for this type of problem, you will find that TweakUI is a solution. I respect your decision not to use a third party program. Others who read this thread, and have a similar problem, may want to try it?

electronicsfreak: I can't move or copy this item. I can only make shortcuts to it.

linney: Yes, I know this program. But i guess that it must be some way to remove this item without it. I guess that from user interface it can not be done.

It looks like (except using TweakUI) the only way is to mess around with registry settings.
