I needed to add several contacts to our Active Directory Users group. I created emails for these contacts. Now each of these contacts showup in the global address book. How can I get them to not showup but still be in the system?
Go to properties of the contact in ADUC and click on the Exchange Advanced tab. There is a checkbox to hide from Exchange address lists. That will hide it from the GAL
The icon showing a person with a globe represents a contact. You can use exactly the same process on contacts that you can on users to hide them from the address lists.
If you created them in AD and created mailboxes then they will show up. If you don't want them to show up, why can't you remove the Exchange attributes? Why have a mailbox that users cannot contact?
I have added the exchange attributes because I need to be able to forward emails to those addresses. However, I do not want anyone to be able to send emails to these contacts directly so I want to hide them from GAL.
Again, my question is, after checking the box "Hide from address lists" on the advanced tab, why do some of the contacts disappear and others still show up in the GAL?
Replication. Hide means hide but not immediately...downloaded copies of the GAL will not know it should be hidden, the same as older versions of the GAL. Basically you need to wait.
