Oops Someone just deleted a very important file from a network drive on out network!

I cannot see it in that users recycle bin so I wonder if someone could tell me where it is gone!

Thanks

MrBelfry

MrBelfry,

If the network runs Novell, use Salvage to recover it. If it is NT4, 2K or 2003 server try Emergency Undelete from Executive Software, or the full version of Network Undelete if you have it. If you don't have it already, Emergency Undelete should be available from some free software download sites, just google for it, as the company no longer makes it available from its own site.

Failing that, restore the file from the latest backup (you do have one, don't you).

A delete performed across the network does not make a Recycle Bin entry. It is equivalent to doing a Shift-Delete operation on the local console.

Follow jrbarnett's advice above.

Has the file been deleted of a file server? local machine?
well again if u had regular bkups u can recover it from there. If u have Novell then u can do it. Only other option is to get a small file rcovery tools, which seraches for files deleted. U c when u delete a file its not actually deleted. It still occupies sectors of the hard disk. So as long they are nto over written the file is recoverable.

Thanks for you help and info and I have no sorted this out.

Thanks again
