I'm having trouble with Outlook 2000, when I receive new emails and read one of them, it then marks all the unread ones as read -I don't use the preview pane but i've tried changing those options too(to mark as read in preview pane). This is very annoying as I'm worried I'll miss an email -if its been marked as read, but I haven't read it and not noticed.

Any ideas anyone?

I don't use Outlook, so I'm guessing: Is there somewhere in the options a rule created to handle every e-mail as ridden (hope I wrote that right)

i can't find anything options or rules for that -i been looking for days!

Btw -your 'ridden' i think should be 'read' -its spelt the same as read (pronouced reed), but it pronouced 'red'!

Thanks

I'm really struggling with this one, has anyone got any more ideas?

Please help!!!

How are you "reading" the emails
Are you double clcking to open the individual mail ??

There are some options in Tools>Options>Other>Preview Pane which you may want to take a look at - one of them allows messages to be marked as read when selection changes and another sets a time limit...

I open emails by double clicking them, don't use the Preview Pane due to risk of opening a virus infected email. But I have tried changing the options about marking an email as read after so many seconds etc -and it makes no difference.

I dont have any rules set up about reading emails or anything like that.

so when you double click and open 1 mail, it marks all the other unread mails as read ??

exactly!!
which is a pain because i don't want to miss any emails -by thinking that i've read something when i've not!

A few queries,
Do they all become read AS SOON AS you open one or does it take a while longer seconds/minutes?
Do you have any virus scanning/ spam filtering software constantly running through your inbox? If so, check settings.
Is there any other person/account which have the permission to view your inbox when logged on as themselves?

If you still get nowhere fast, you could always reinstall Outlook.
