I have recently been troubled by what I believe to be a virus. Files are created at about 5 minute intervals in my C:/WINDOWS/Temp folder under names such as 1020732919.exe. None of the files are larger than 0 bytes. I have run in safe mode, with all updates, running spybot, Ad-Aware SE personal, AboutBuster, ATF-Cleaner, CWS shredder, Look2me-Destroyer, Prevx2, SmitFraudFix, VirtumondoBeGone, etc...I have tried everything I can. I have looked through several forums but am unable to find anything because the files leave random 10 digit names and I am unable to find the source. I will run HijackThis and post a report...I was also have a sample Notification from Symantec AntiVirus (the 5 minute interval warnings that I have a virus come from these messages)

Symantec AnitVirus Notification:

Any help would be GREATLY appreciated! Thanks!

I deleted the BHO you identified, and proceeded to the full system scan. (Nothing was found) Then after installing the spyware detection link that you listed at the end, I have had extreme new problems. Symantec Antivirus has identified and deleted (thousands of times) a file called: File: C:\Documents and Settings\All Users.WINDOWS\Application Data\Symantec\Symantec AntiVirus Corporate Edition\7.5\APTemp\AP0.tmp

The program you recommended obviously started this file after uninstalling my windows firewall and spybot...(not so nice)...has this happened to you? As soon as I close the MicroPC-cillin program, the virus ceases to be created again... I will reinstall windows firewall and spybot and hope for the best. I think the problem just lies in my firewall creating something that appears to be virus-like...is this possible? The registry file for auto startup (of the firewall) has been deleted...would this have anything to do with it?

From what ive researched, that file is W32.Spybot.Worm. Also housecall is not what caused this file to exist, that site is clean. I have a feeling this file is installing as you are probably using internet explorer and it has probably hijacked it.

Use this program to completely empty your temp folders

If anything wont delete, use this program to delete them.

From what I can gather is its located in your temp folder and has not installed on your system yet but is trying to. norton appears to be stopping it. So use those to clean it out and remove it and hopefully that removes the problem.

There is a point in wisdom and knowledge that when you reach it, you exceed what is considered possible - Jason Schoon

bobuck74,

According to the BHO you deleted is just unnecessary, not malicious.

But did you check the Symantec link (all tabs) that electronicsfreak mentioned and followed the instructions before you proceeded?

It's important to turn off "System Restore" when your PC has been infected!

the log here with a new hijack this log.

or more, depending on how many drives you have and how badly infected your
pc is.

Highlight the portion of the scan that lists infected items and hold
CTRL + C to Copy then paste it here. The whole log with be extremely
big so there is no way to copy the whole thing. I just need the
infected items list.

Post a new hijack this, the combo, the Mwav scan log and the AVg antispware log!

AVG solved my problem...for some reason it picked up the virus that Norton could not...I had system restore off for both, but thanks for all the help!

most likely a form of spyware and not a virus per say.. norton will now detect Malware/spyware as well now but it usually doesn't do as good a job at removal as the dedicated anti-spyware programs do.
