Unlock Keyboard Prompt

After leaving my desktop on for about an hour and then coming back, I was faced with a lockup after I tried to log back in. Currently using XP Home. I rebooted after the lockup and now I am faced with a "unlock keyboard" prompt anytime I reboot. I am unable to get to Windows at all. I can choose to enter the BIOS, network boot, or F1 to resume. If I hit resume, try and boot from a boot CD or floppy, it brings me to a blank screen with a flashing cursor. I have tried different keyboards, unplugging the keyboard but I still get the unlock keyboard prompt or if I hit resume or try and boot from a disk, I get the blank screen with the flashing cursor.

Are you able to boot into safemode?

If so, uninstall keyboard from device manager, then boot up again with the keyboard connected letting windows re-install it.

If all else fails, you may need to clear the CMOS using the jumper on the motherboard.

Thanks for the replys. I am unable to boot into safemode as well. I will try and clear the CMOS but am a little unclear on how to do this and do not know the implications.

What is the brand and exact model of this computer?

Knowing that can help us provide specific instructions.

I suspect smah has nailed this issue: it is not an XP issue, but a BIOS one. If you can get into BIOS disable the locking and password protections available there. On many machines just removing the battery for three minutes will circumvent the issue. On most laptops this will not work.

My apologies. I will get the exact motherboard version, CPU version etc...as soon as I get home from work. Thanks for the tips as well.

I do know it is an AMD +1800 processor with a KTI VT100 motherboard if that helps any.
