I am currently using INFORMIX-SQL Version 6.02.UC1
to interrogate a database held on a SCO Openserver box. Being a complete novice with this I don't know whether the UNLOAD command moves the source data or leaves it intact. I have to export some data into an ASCII file for FTPing on to a Windows machine and do not want to mess with the source data. I am sure I am the only person in this forum who does not know the answer to this but help would be very much appreciated. Thanks, Simon.

Hi,

Unload sql statement takes an image of data from the source data table and dumps it to a file. While doing so, it does NOT harm the base table in any manner and the data still remains in the original form.

unload to 'data.txt'
select field_list
from table_name
where some_condition

Shriyan

Many thanks for your assistance. It is much appreciated.
