Recently I have noticed a new workgroup show up in my Network Neighborhood called "Thematrix". If you try to open it fails and I can't find it in WINS, DNS , NET VIEW, NBTSTAT or anywhere. Any ideas on how to track down what is advertising this workgroup or domain? And how to remove it?
Thanks,
Scuzz

Sounds like someone had some fun in their network settings ;)

I can only assume this has been caused by somebody changing the workgroup name on their workstation although you probably already sussed that :)

I dont know how you would track it down physically, but if the client is NT in nature you could "NET SEND THEMATRIX PLEASE GIVE ME A CALL".

Then you'd have a msg pop up on their machine.

If someone did join themselves to this workgroup, and later logged out or returned to former workgroup/domain, the name would persist for a while.

Yep, if it no longer exists, it might take awhile for it to be removed from the browse list.

Well it's been weeks now and I still have had no luck in tracking down what is advertising this workgroup "TheMatrix". I try to hit it every once and a while and it always says "The Network Path was not found". I was told that it might be a program or a screen saver that is SAP'ing the network.
Still looking,

I know this is an old thread... but did you ever solve it. I have the same issue ?

Mitzysman,
Still no luck, I basically have just given up...it just won't go away and I can't track it down in the network.
