Hi,

When you install XP and provide a user account that is admin on that pc, XP adds this account to the administrators group, but also adds this account directly to the ACL of newly created folders.
My problem is that when I join a domain later and want to remove the account (and just keep 1 local administrator account), the SID of this user is still displayed in the ACL of those folders.

So my question is twofold: Is this normal XP behaviour and how can I remove those SID's from the folders?

Thanks in advance!

Did you delete the user profile or just remove the account..? Go to control panel and system... on the advanced tab, select settings under user profiles and you can actually delete the profile from the system... that should remove the SID from the system, you should get prompted with a message about deleting the profile, regarding not being able to retrieve the data stored under that profile, make your decision and then let us know how it worked.... debonairOne

Thanks for your reply.

No, it stays in the ACL after I deleted the profile. He tries to resolve the SID to a username by checking the local security database, but because the account is removed there, he is unable to and just displays the SID.

It's strange that the account only exists in those new directory and not in program files for example.

If you test it for yourself, you'll see what I mean, I'm kinda puzzled here...

Yes I can, if it was one folder only. But I installed an Oracle client in the root for example, and the SID resides in all subdirectories.

Besides, it can't be the intention to do it that way. Why does he adds the account to the ACL in the first place, while he is already in the administrators group?
