Hi

We have a Windows 2003 server (SP3) that is a Domain Controller. It is also running an instance of Exchange System Manager (this server is not our primary Exchange server). I have noticed some application log errors that I cant find any information to troubleshoot so wondering if anyone can possible help or have come across this before?

These 4 errors occured in sucession:

services (396) An attempt to move the file "C:\WINDOWS\Security\edb.log" to "C:\WINDOWS\Security\edb00057.log" failed with system error 183 (0x000000b7): "Cannot create a file when that file already exists. ". The move file operation will fail with error -1022 (0xfffffc02).

services (396) Unable to create a new logfile because the database cannot write to the log drive. The drive may be read-only, out of disk space, misconfigured, or corrupted. Error -1022.

services (396) The logfile sequence in "C:\WINDOWS\Security\" has been halted due to a fatal error. No further updates are possible for the databases that use this logfile sequence. Please correct the problem and restart or restore from backup.

services (396) Unable to rollback operation #121569 on database C:\WINDOWS\Security\Database\secedit.sdb. Error: -510. All future database updates will be rejected.

Followed by this error every 5 minutes:

Security policies were propagated with warning. 0x4b8 : An extended error has occurred.

The file C:\WINDOWS\Security\edb00057 does exist and there are no issues with disk space and I have restrted the server and the same event log is again generated every 5 minutes.

Many thanks in advanced!

Uninstall the ESM from the DC. Run ESM from a workstation (NEVER on a DC) and your errors should disappear.

Try not to double post. Thanks.

Hi thanks for the response. Presume its just a case of uninstalling MS Exchange (to unisntall the ESM) from add/remove (from the DC). Would the removal cause any issues with live Exchange?

Cheers

correct and no issue with exchange ESM is just a mgmt console
