This sounds like a dumb question, but is there anyway to run a unix program on Windows NT? Some kind of shell or something?
thanks
Dave

I have never heard of anyone wanting to do that, usually it is the other why around. If there is a need for it then a program called an emulator will have been created, in your case you want an unix emulator. What an emulator does is try to create a virtual machine inside your computer to run the programs on. If you can't find anything like that then you may want to see if you can find a program with the same functionality as the software you want to run. Worst case scenerio, you may have to find a unix machine to run it on.

What does the unix program do, and what is it called, I may know of something to suit your needs.

fenris
fenris@hotmail.com

Thanks for the info. I'm looking into "UWin" (<A HREF=" TARGET="_new"> which claims to be able to run unix programs on windows. I'm going to try it out...

The program I'm trying to run is 'Word for Word' which is a file conversion utility (that works, but is outdated). I need to convert from HTML into popular word processing formats (Word, WP, rtf, etc.). I searched high and low for a conversion tool that does this reliably (I found some, but they failed my testing) with no luck. So, if anybody knows of a good file conversion utility, I'd like to take a look.
Thanks

This program 'Word for Word' does it have source code? If it does then you may be able to port it to winNT. Anyway it sounds like an interesting program.

fenris
fenris@hotmail.com
