I am desiging a Citrix system for about 100 loactions based on W2K TS plus Citrix. The remote systems are connected via ISDN dial up to an ISP, by using VPN I can establish a network connection to our corporate network. The clients have a Lasesjet printer connected to the parallel port of a PC running the W98 + ICA client software. The printer autocreates and works fine MS Office etc., but I also have to support a unix application which produces print output. An autocreated printer isn't shared out by default, as administrator on the TS system I can share out the printer, and set appropriate permissions. But when the session vanishes and subsequently restarted the printer needs to shared out again. I need away to change the default behaviour of the way autocreate sets up the printers - to shared plus the approporiate permissions. Any ideas as how to do this.

I am assuming that it is not that unusual to run Unix applications across terminal server and require print output to a local printer - so how is this done?

grateful for any suggestions

Robin

If you are using a Windows client for your UNIX application, then the settings should be on a per-user basis within that client. What software are you using to connect to the UNIX box?

To Citrix Engineer.
The application is the client(32bit application) to a MIMs system (Unix based asset management system. A user request for print results in a Unix print job being sent to a pre-defined NT shared printer using the LPD service.

The objective is that this printer should be the one locally attached to the user's machine (Citrix client).

For this to happen the local printer must be shared and have appropriate permissions set, the queue name should also be predictable too, so that the Unix print stream can be directed to it.

I would suspect that the user profiles are not updating correctly. This is the first area to investigate.

I hope this helps

If your not fussy about the printer disconnecting after log out allow the printer to autoconnect share out the printer and remove the "auto created client printer" comment from the comments box under the printer properties. This forces the printer to be perminent and keep your settings.

Hope this is applicable.
