Unix Password

I have an account with Unix (developer account) and one of my co-workers has changed the password. He .. no longer works here.

I would assume so .. but can anyone tell me if the SYS Admin for the Unix box can modify my old account?

If not , is there anyway or anything that I can do?

Will we have to drop the user account and recreate it?

Anyone who has root authority can reset your password so you can get back in and set it to what you want it to be. They don't need to know what the old password was to reset your password.

If there is no unix administrator then you can log on to system in single user mode and remove the old password from text file located in /etc/passwd.
In order to boot system in single user mode you have to reboot the system and stop boot sequence by presseing any key. then type at prompt command>bo -isl will boot the system in single user mode
#mount -a
#cd /etc
#vi passwd (you need to know how to use vi)

Hi,

Standard thing. Handed an old 712/60. Boots fine but get to the Console Login prompt and of course no username/password. When booted to this point server is running:

B2352A HP-UX (A.09.05)

Looked around this site and everyone says to do the following to change the root password:

1. Escape from boot sequence

Works great (under BootRom 1.6)

2. boot pri isl

Again works fine (using ISL Revision is A.00.34 Mar 20, 1994)

3. From ISL> hpux -is

Now we hit the problem. What I see is the following:
Secondary Loader 9000/700
Revision 3.08
Then the screen clears to the ISL prompt.

Has anyone seen this before and if so is there a fix? Is there something I have missed? Is there a way to upgrade via a boot floppy and do an install that way?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated before it ends up in the bin B-)
