I have a POTS line (we'll say its 111-222-8000) and at the telco they are forwarding this to another number which is 111-222-6120.

In Call Manager i have a dummy phone for 6120 that is set to Forward all to Voicemail.

In unity i have call handler setup with the optional extension as 6120.

When i dial the PSTN number from my cell 111-222-6120, i hear the greeting everything is cool.

However when i dial 111-222-8000 i dont hear the 6120 greeting.

What do you get when you dial the 8000 number? A busy, Opening Greeting in Unity?

i get the Default Opening greeting.

The one where if you dial *XXXX where XXXX= is an extension that is not in unity (subcriber or call handler etc).

create another call handler in Unity using the 8000 call handler as a template. Change the extension on the profile to be 6120 and that should work.
There are other ways you can make it work but that is probably the easiest.

Another way is to change from a 6120 CallHandler to a 6120 Mailbox and put 8000 as an alternate extension on it. I can't remeber if you can put an alternate extension on a CallHandler but something tells me you can't. This will use a license but if you have a few extra it will work.

Call handlers don't have alternate extensions (it would be a nice feature) but changing to a subscriber mailbox will also work well.
I guess CISCO doesn't see the need to add alternate option for CH as they do not use licenses so you can add as many as you need.

Use Routing rules to achieve what you want. Most likely the Forwared rule.

Use call viewer when you make the call. When the call comes in, look at call viewer and tailor your rule to match it. Then point it to the Call handler of your choice. Routing rules is the way to go, check it out.

thanks guys....i ended up resolving the issue by putting the full 10 digit number into the extension on the CH.
4 wouldnt work
i also tried call routing and that didnt work...
