Hi i'm trying to uninstall microsoft office powerpoint viewer. When trying to use the add/remove programs utility i get a "windows installer" message saying :

"The feature you are trying to use is on a network that is unavailable..... Click ok to try again or enter an alternate path to a folder containing the installation package 'PPVIEWER.MSI' in the box below"

the there's a little box with the path:C:\WINDOWS\TEMP\IXP000.TMP\

then when i click 'OK' to try again i get this window:
"The path : 'C:\WINDOWS\TEMP\IXP000.TMP\' cannot be found. Please verify that you have access to this location and try again OR try to find the instalation package 'PPVIEWER.MSI' in a folder from wich you can install the product"

so i check windows/temp and its empty. ?? Running a file search for 'PPVIEWER.MSI' turns up nothing...

I know i'm supposed to get rid of programs using the add/remove utility but if i can't figure this out can i just delete it manually? I've got ppviewer.exe on my desktop instead of in my "program files" folder (i didn't install it so i don't know why) but if i just deleted that and then deleted the powerpoint shotcut in my c:/windows/startup menu/ folder would that complteley uninstall everything that was installed during the program's installation? Or would just deleting the program like that cause problems?

Thanks for any help Simon.

If you ran an installer to get it on, you want to run an uninstaller to get it off. Unless of course, as a last resort you obtain a list of all changes made to the file system. Okay, here's my suggestion.

1. If you ran the powerpoint msi off a network, search the network for it.

2. If you can't find it, redownload/obtain the msi, save it to your c: drive somewhere. Rerun the installer, if it has an option to remove, choose that. Otherwise, reinstall it, when done, remove through add/remove programs, and point it to the 'C:\WINDOWS\TEMP\IXP000.TMP' file when prompted (which should now exist)

Matt J.

Please always take the time to backup any and all data before performing any actions suggested for ANY problem, regardless of how minor a change it might seem. Also test the backup to make sure it is intact.
