Uninstalling Outlook Express

I decided to uninstall and reinstall Outlook Express in order to fix a suspected problem. After I removed the copy listed in my Add/Remove folder in Control Panel, I found that there remains an earlier version on my disk, which came bundled with my original ISP software.

Since there is nothing in the Control Panel Ad/Remove list to uninstall, is it safe to simply delete the folder this older version is sitting in? I'd like to have a completely clean slate before re-installing the current version.

Thanks,

Larkspur

Deleting the folder will not remove all the references in the registry and will totally confuse Windows; I suggest you leave it there.

What was the original problem?

If it was a suspected corrupt file you may be able to install the latest version and solve the problem. Use Outlook Express V5.5 sp2 if you can.

I've checked my files' directory.

Even tho I've already uninstalled it, I think Outlook 5 was in all likelihood stored in Windows\Application Data\Microsoft\Outlook Express. Whereas this older version of Outlook is stored in its very own folder in Program Files.

Couldn't I just rename it in order to temporarily disable its files before I reinstall the latest version of Outlook? I really suspect the problem is that Windows is *already* confused having the two versions of Outlook competing in the background, and that may be what is causing the problem I'm trying to resolve (that problem being that I am unable to add any new accounts to Outlook, over and above the one single account that was already in there which is no longer active.)

Can somebody please tell me if it's possible to edit a post after its been submitted, and if so, how?
