Hi, i just installed directx 9 and it screwed up my tv capture device, i used to see tv fine through my pc but now i see fuzzy, image within image and without any color...

My tv card is Booktree Fusion 878tv, i cant see to find updated drivers for this card so i want to uninstall directx 9 and then install directx 8 with which my tv used to work, so how can i remove directx 9?

Thanks.

Pulled this from another message board:
Micro$oft claims that there is no way to uninstall DirectX after it is installed, except a format and clean Windows installation. There are some 3rd party uninstallers available, but their reliability is highly questionable.
I think the poster is correct, I have a friend whose comp has a really old 8 meg i740 vid card. Everything was working fine untill he tried to install a game that needed DX8. So he installed DX8 but his card wouldn't work properly with it. It really screwed up his machine! As far as I could see there was no way to revert to DX6, short of the repartition/format/clean install, so that is what I did, and all was well(except he can't play any newer games)[sad] If you're going through Hell...keep going... Quote from Microsoft Website:

"DirectX 9.0 is a system component and cannot be uninstalled. If there is a problem with the DirectX installation, it can normally be resolved by shutting down all running applications and reinstalling. As mentioned previously, DirectX 9.0 is fully backward-compatible with titles written for previous versions of DirectX. If you are having other problems after installing DirectX 9.0, these can often be resolved by installing updated drivers for your display card, audio card, or input device.

As with most software, users of Windows ME and Windows XP have the option of creating a “System Restore point" before installing. System Restore points allow you to roll back your operating system to a time before the software was installed. If you feel there are special circumstances which may necessitate removal of DirectX. It is recommended that you create a System Restore point. Windows 98, Windows 98 SE, and Windows 2000 do not support the "System Restore" feature."

Try here for drivers...if you are still stuck post again and will look some more for you.

Good Luck!

Wheedoggy,

Have you used this software before?
I have seen stuff like this but I have never advocated it as I have never found any of it to be reliable.

If so, I will DL it myself and check it out.[smile]

Hi Kimber

No - I have not tried it but seems worth a shot in comparison to an alternative clean reinstall of the OS which would essentially be required having been said that DX9 will not work on robi2's system.

If this is not your case, I do not recommend doing it.

I apologize that I do not more clearly express myself.

OK thanks for the clarification...

With that said, be prepared to do a full reinstall, including doing a full backup of any and all data.

If you want to try a utility to uninstall it, go for it. No harm done then right?

If you have any success, it would be valuable for you to post the information here for the rest of us to benefit!

Best of luck! Kimber
